If you’re into vegan eats and retro gaming, then Netherworld in Fortitude Valley is worth checking out. It’s a vegan-friendly omni restaurant where all dishes are vegan by default (unless you opt for non-vegan swaps, which you really don’t need to do).
The vibe here is super fun, with arcade machines, pinball machines, retro consoles, and board games found throughout the whole bar and restaurant, making it a great place to hang out with friends or embrace some nostalgic solo gaming.
I got to try a few vegan dishes here. The Mimic Mac and Cheese has a creamy base with some flavourful and garlicky breadcrumbs on top. While the pasta is tasty, I find myself wishing for a bit more cheesiness and saltiness as the flavours come mostly from the breadcrumbs. The Phoenix Burger is a solid choice with a crispy chicken-style patty and slaw, pickles, cheese, and a mild chipotle mayo that taste great altogether. For dessert, the Peanut Butter Oreo Pie is not my favourite unfortunately. While the flavours are decent, it is a bit too sweet even for a sweet-tooth like me, and the jelly-like texture of the filling might not appeal to everyone.
