MAYA Bakery & Bar is a chic vegan bakery that offers a delightful mix of hard-to-find Hong Kong-style baked goods. With its main location in the PCCW Tower at Taikoo Place (a great companion stop with Years) and a smaller kiosk at IFC in Central, it caters to vegans who agnate to try the traditional Hong Kong bakery items.
Here you’ll find vegan baked goods like Hong Kong-style egg tarts, pineapple buns, chocolate-dipped croissants and more. The selection is impressive, though the quality can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on the item.
Out of everything I tried, the egg tart and lava tart were standouts. They capture the familiar the texture of the non-vegan counterparts quite well, even though the lava tart would be better if served warm. On the flip side, the texture of bread, like the pineapple bun and croissant, tends to be on the dry side and lacks softness.
Beyond the baked goods, MAYA also offers salad bowls, wraps, and even pizza for those looking for a heartier meal (the selection is bigger in their main branch in Taikoo). For drinks, you’ll find a variety of coffee, smoothies, and tea lattes.
