Mother Pearl is a vegan bubble tea chain that's reinventing your typical boba experience with creative flavour combinations, though some drinks may be a bit too ‘experimental’ for some.
All the bubble tea here are vegan, including crowd-pleasers like the Yuen Yeung 3.0, which is a Hong Kong style milk tea + coffee, or the taro mo-latte, a classic oat milk bubble tea with added sweet taro paste. However, not every bubble tea hits the mark for me: For instance, the matcha jasmine is loaded with grass jelly, taro paste, red bean, and matcha pearls, which ends up more like a dessert you have to eat than a drink, and it’s surprisingly low on sweetness. And if you are new to bubble tea, you probably want to steer clear of their QI wellness section, as those bubble teas incorporate Chinese medicine ingredients that may take some getting used to.
Other than bubble tea, you can find some vegan snacks and meals here like wraps drizzled with Hong Kong fermented tofu sauce, peking duck empanadas, and earl grey mochi cookies. Just keep in mind to read the menu carefully as not all items are vegan - like the kimchi cheese empanadas which contains dairy.
